How To Get Followers On Twitter – The Right Way

Having a high volume of Twitter followers is not the be-all and end-all. However, increasing the number of engaged followers can improve your brand’s performance considerably.

So, how do you do this? Well, it’s no secret. Check out a few simple ways to get followers on Twitter below.

1. Answer Questions From Big Brands

When you click on a tweet, you can see replies from public users. If other brand followers do this, and agree with your statement, they’ll more than likely engage with your tweet and even follow you too.

Of course, make sure these major brands are not your competition, but do have a similar target audience.

2. Write And Share Guest Posts

Writing content for other sites can be a great way of gaining brand awareness and building natural backlinks, and is a way of getting your name out there.

Brands and bloggers will likely share the post from their site on their social channels, tagging your Twitter handle in the process. If the content is of high-quality, their followers may choose to follow your account too. Put your Twitter handle in your author bio to make this as easy as possible.

3. Follow More People

It may sound simple, but a number of research studies have revealed a correlation between the number of people followed and the number of followers. In short, the more people you follow, the more likely you are to get a follow back.

4. Use Online Tools To Schedule Tweets

Whether it’s Hootsuite, Sendible, SproutSocial or something completely different, using a social tool to help you post regularly is an effective way of increasing engagement and visibility. And the more you’re seen, the more your number of followers will likely grow.

Although posting regularly is important, avoid doing multiple tweet bursts. This can have the opposite effect and cause people to feel bombarded and unfollow you.

5. Tag Your Location

Whether you’re a shop, a service provider, or an online retailer, you’ll have a physical location. And sharing this will help you appear for local searches and connect with local businesses around you. These businesses may feel neighbourly and retweet your content to their followers.

6. Include Your Handle On All Marketing Material

Make sure to include your twitter handle on everything from business cards to brochures, event signage to your website, in order to make finding and following your Twitter account as easy as possible.

7. Send Public Responses

If someone tweets or messages you a question, and you think your answer could provide useful information for others, share a public tweet which responds to their direct question. This will not only answer their question, but show you’re knowledgeable and happy to share what you know with your followers.

Don’t forget to @ mention the original questioner!

8. Never Buy Followers

If you’re ever tempted to enlist the services of a company that offers to gain you followers, don’t. The likelihood is that they’ll ask you to pay for fake followers who will artificially inflate your numbers without actually engaging with your account. This will add no value to your account and could leave you out of pocket.
