Fiat introduces eco:Drive Fleet

AKQA and Fiat are making it easier for companies to reduce their automotive carbon footprint with the introduction of eco:Drive Fleet. This free and easy-to-use application enables fleet managers to help Fiat drivers cut down on fuel consumption, reduce CO2 emissions and save money on fuel costs. AKQA created an eco:Drive Fleet desktop application, a website dashboard, and a promotional film tailored to the fleet manager audience.

Building on the success of the world-first and award-winning eco:Drive launched by Fiat in 2008, eco:Drive Fleet uses in-car telemetry to help fleet managers compare, examine and evaluate individual driving styles. This insight into the aggregated data gives companies tangible evidence of their efforts to achieve their Corporate Social Responsibility goals, through reductions in their fleets’ emissions. To help reach those targets, fleet managers can incentivise eco-driving improvements among the fleet, setting up challenges to encourage participation and using the aggregated data to see which drivers are improving the most. The frugality encouraged by eco:Drive is already resonating with companies striving to be eco-friendly, and is driving real world sales: a global soft drinks manufacturer has ordered 80 vehicles specifically for this application.

eco:Drive Fleet is easy to use. A driver’s in-car telemetry data is transferred from a Fiat to a computer by means of a USB stick and Fiat's Blue&Me™ technology. The eco:Drive desktop application analyses the driver’s acceleration, deceleration, gear changes and speed, awarding a mark out of 100 according to how efficiently they drove. Step-by-step tutorials then help them to improve their score, using information from their own journeys to give practical advice on how to perfect their driving style. The eco:Drive Fleet portal aggregates all of the results into a single view for the fleet manager to understand driving behaviour across their fleet, see how individuals are contributing towards an overall eco:Driving goal and view projections of potential savings that could be made through continued improvement.

Commenting on eco:Drive Fleet, Luis Cilimingras, Director of Digital strategy Fiat Group, said: “eco:Drive has proved to be a hit with private drivers, who are increasingly conscious of CO2 emissions and the rising cost of fuel. While every driver can make a contribution to reducing CO2 emissions, eco:Drive Fleet encourages a collective effort to achieve the greatest results. We believe eco:Drive Fleet presents a tremendous opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions, while also helping companies realise their CSR targets.”

James Hilton, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer, AKQA, said: “eco:Drive continues to go from strength to strength, and its latest incarnation in eco:Drive Fleet is testament to this. The opportunity to make an even greater reduction to the emissions produced by corporate and logistical transportation is amazingly exciting, made even more impressive by the significant orders Fiat have already received. It’s truly wonderful to see driving behaviours and attitudes change based on the power of an idea."
