my4n.TV / myForeign.TV provides a wide range of international TV channels streamed live over 3G mobile networks, including : BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, Antena 3, KBS...
This mobile service is targeted at foreign communities and those eager for news and entertainment from abroad : expatriates, immigrants, students, international executives...
my4n.TV offers subscriptions to live TV channels, as well as on-demand video news and text information, all in the original language to suit the audience preference from English to Arabic, and even Korean.
Monthly subscriptions range from 3€ TTC for one channel to 5-6€ TTC for a pack of three TV channels, excluding mobile operators data charge.
First deployed in France, the service will rapidly be rolled-out in Europe.
Customers are able to select a pack of live TV channels to suit their language preference from English speaking channels to Arabic and even Korean video content. The service will be targeted at foreign communities and those eager for foreign news: expatriates, immigrants, international students and international executives.
Gorillabox was commissioned to deploy a managed solution taking live video content from satellite and deploying it to Mobile devices.
Strategy
This project utilised all aspects of the Gorillabox’s technical infrastructure in a managed environment. The challenge was to take live feeds from satellites and deploy the live video to a wide range of mobile devices in real time.
Luckily Goirillabox’s experience in this field and solid management meant that this was smooth process for all parties.
Execution
Firstly we set up satellite dishes for all the channels requested by My4NTV. We were extremely careful to ensure there was plenty of capacity to allow for future channels to be added easily and at low cost. The infrastructure has all been set up at our state of the art Data Center in Maidenhead, UK.
By ensuring that the satellites were in the same place as the rest of the equipment we can ensure that data costs are kept to a minimum. If the satellite dish and receiver were in a remote location to the data centre the cost of transmitting video date could quickly escalate.
The rest of the deployment utilised Gorillabox’s state of the art video streamer. The video streamer means that we have a huge capacity to serve many thousands of concurrent users . In real world terms this means that there can be hundreds of thousands of users or members as in reality only a small percentage if these will be using the service simultaneously.
The service was deployed as a fully managed solution. This meant the My4NTV did not have to worry about the platform not working. We offer an availability of 99.9% which meant that the service is available virtually the whole time. In the rare event of something actually happening a fast response means that the issue is resolved quickly and efficiently. We use our own monitoring system based on Nagois which is extremely sophisticated and has been developed over many years. Effectively we can pick up on any potential issues before they even become apparent to the customer.
