Brief
Clive's are a vegetarian organic bakery in South Devon, committed to producing healthy and delicious free-from foods.
The brief was to create a consumer orientated online presence for Clive's to reinforce their brand values and communicate a high level of information about the products and their ingredients in a quirky, engaging way. A key objective was to provide the consumer with as much information as possible online and increase traffic through search engine optimisation.
Strategy & Execution
The approach was to create a really engaging user experience which would reinforce the 'handmade in devon' attribute.
Set in a quirky Devon bakery the Clive's story literally unfolds across the screen as it invites the viewer to explore. Many hidden animated elements created in Adobe Flash are positioned throughout the horizontally scrolling page, to be discovered rather than presented to the visitor in the traditional sense. Sounds were also carefully selected and incorporated to heighten the experience and add a humorous touch.
The unusual page structure was constructed using advanced CSS techniques to position elements horizontally rather than the defacto vertical standard. Navigation between sections on the page was achieved using a mix of CSS and javascript and uses PHP to indicate the current section on the navigation.
Results
Since going live the FAQ section has considerably reduced the number of repeat product information and ingredient enquiries that Clive's Pies receive. This section is content managed by Clive's themselves - updating and amending questions as and when required.
The average time spent on the new website has doubled with visitors increasing the number of pages they view by 70%.
