Background

Zone has worked with Channel 4 since 1999. Our teams are responsible for two of Channel 4’s biggest and most successful websites – Film4 and 4Food. Zone’s full-time editorial teams manage all of the content across both market-leading sites, and are also responsible for the acclaimed video podcast Movie Rush. We also work closely with Channel 4 New Media’s award-winning advertising sales team to develop integrated advertorial products for major commercial clients.

Brief

To build a commercially viable audience for advertiser-funded websites around Channel 4’s on air programming strands in Film and Food.

Strategy
To develop a database of high-quality, original editorial content which is optimised for search engines, providing users with regular reasons to visit the sites.

Creative

Zone’s editorial teams work across multiple platforms, producing text and video content for web, mobile, podcast and TV formats. Zone conceived and produces Movie Rush, Film4’s award-winning weekly video podcast, and our editorial teams have pioneered the development of blogs, forums, social media and video content to build Film and Food into two of Channel 4’s largest consumer sites.

Results

Channel 4 Film launched in 2000, and Zone’s editorial team have compiled a database of 15,000 original film reviews covering every cinema and DVD release in the UK. The site attracts more than 5 million page impressions per month, providing a highly desirable audience for advertisers including premium brands such as BMW, Stella Artois and Yell.com.

Channel 4 Food launched in 2007, and within 12 months grown to become the largest commercial food and drink website in the UK. Building on a database of 2,500 original recipes, the site delivered more than 10 million page impressions in January 2008 alone, and has attracted blue-chip advertising clients including Unilever, Gallo Wines and Ford.
