Advanced Mobile Application for Met Office
|
|
Gorillabox built the VOD mobile service “Mobile Weather” for our client Met Office in 2008.
But Met wanted a more comprehensive service and the iPhone app environment allowed this.
It identifies your location using GPS and then offers you ever type of weather data imaginable including radar images, satellite, text weather forecasts and is retailed through the app store.
Execution
The project has been entirely managed by Gorillabox.
From design all the way through to the release on the iPhone app store.
This meant working closely with Met Office to create an easy to use service which anyone with an iPhone could access and make regular use of.
Additionally, we also were required to organise all their data feeds (not a small task) and of course build the actual iPhone client.
Gorillabox also liaised closely with Apple on the usability of the service as they took special interest in such a high-profile client breaking into the mobile app scene in such a big way.
Strategy
The Met Office is a government-owned agency. Their funding formula is based around how many consumers they reach with their content.
To reach as many new customers as possible through mobile of all flavours starting with the iPhone.
The iPhone affords functionality which is hard to achieve through the mobile service which Gorillabox already runs for Met Office called “Mobile Weather”.
