Brief


Gorillabox won the contract to build out a range of ad-funded mobile news sites for online news provider Adfero. Using our mobile news service SNIP-IT, we were able to quickly set up and deploy a mobile version of the inthenews website. Mobile handsets are detected when they hit the website and re-directed to a mobile version which generates revenue through advertising.

Strategy

Adfero, like many news portals, wanted to develop a mobile strategy. However, they did not have the technology or the expertise to do so in-house. For this reason, they contracted mobile specialists Gorillabox. Gorillabox already run a wide range of mobile services for major brands such as Bebo, 3, Met Office and many more.

Execution

The new service, powered by the mobile enabler Gorillabox (www.gorillabox.net) using their live news product SNIP-IT (http://www.gorillabox.net/index.php/rss-mobile-feeds.html), it will be promoted through the Adfero news service Inthenews.co.uk, Adfero’s news portal and will be branded with the same brand. It will comprise the complete range of stories from the existing web service covering all forms of news and updated live every day. The service will be all funded through display advertising on the page which will be managed by Gorillabox.
Gorillabox will handle the advertising partners and capturing the customer data of each consumer.

As Adfero’s full turnkey provider for the new service, Gorillabox will plan, manage and track the content across the portal and handle all the advertising inventory. This includes everything from ingesting the content, and deploying and maintaining the mobile site through to handling advertising opportunities within the site and maintaining all customer data.

Gorillabox will work with a range of mobile ad agencies to monetise the service with advertising, choosing the best partners which can offer the best value for the traffic.

Results

The service has already been hugely successful generating hundreds of thousands of hits per month from month 1. It is already driving excellent advertising from the portal and also retaining large numbers of consumers who have bookmarked the site.
